Costa del Sol Bars for sale in Spain - Running a bar in Spain

Running a bar in Spain came as quite a shock to me, simply because everyone speaks English! If you decide that your bar should be on the coast then you will have no problems. Both the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca are very British orientated. Most of the suppliers of beer, food and the other essentials needed to run a bar are either British or speak excellent English, and theres no need to worry about transport as all the suppliers come to you.

First days running a bar in Spain

The first few days running your bar in Spain will be hard work but at the same time very enjoyable, remember that you are not the first person to buy a bar in Spain and the suppliers are really helpful. As so many people run a bar successfully who have had no previous experience you will find that your neighbours will also be very keen to help and advise you.

The hours are long especially during the summer months, but you will soon get used to them and quickly adjust to your new chosen lifestyle an be able to relax in your new bar in Spain. At Rightbar.com we can help you through the first few weeks, introducing you to suppliers, ensuring that you have the correct documentation and very importantly a good Gestoria (Spanish Solicitor / Accountant) who will set up your NIE number (Foreigners registration number) and deal with your accounts on a regular basis.

The Gestoria will come to your bar as regularly as you wish, but don't be surprised if he or she strolls in for a drink around midnight - remember they all have a sleep in the afternoon! Bars in Spain and credit don't really mix, you will have to pay your suppliers C.O.D. and be careful with "tabs" (Locals bar bills) too. Obviously NEVER give a tab to holidaymakers, and be aware that some locals can move on pretty quickly too.

The first year will be the hardest and you should keep your overheads as low as possible maybe using the family to run the bar. You must stamp your own identity on your bar as in the winter months your bar will be like a local back home.

With the right attitude and presence your bar in Spain will be successful, experienced or not it will work. Remember to ensure that you are happy with the location of your bar, and don't stretch yourself too much with the price you pay or the rent thereafter.
